Rowden Hill regeneration

Artel31 has been appointed as the architect for the regeneration of the historic Rowden Hill House site in central Chippenham. The multi-acre site, which includes the long-vacant Rowden Hill House, the Grade II listed 51 Rowden Hill, and the terraced homes of 49 Rowden Hill, will be transformed into a sustainable residential community that celebrates the area’s rich heritage. Artel31’s planning submission outlines the restoration and repurposing of these historic buildings, supported by a landscape-led approach that enhances biodiversity and protects the site’s mature green character.

The proposals prioritise sustainability through a fabric-first refurbishment of the retained buildings, preserving embodied carbon while improving energy performance. Alongside this, a small number of sensitively designed new homes will complement the site’s architectural character, with further design development for self-build plots and public realm elements to follow in a separate application.

The planning application will be available to view via Wiltshire Council, and public comments or enquiries can be directed to hello@rowdenhillholdings.co.uk
