The Container

A distinctive feature of the Union Road redevelopment is Artel31’s repurposing of a shipping container as the Bunkhouse soul food eatery, complete with kitchen and servery.

Being partially hidden by the level at which it sits, the external appearance of the Union Road shipping container is largely unchanged. The addition of windows and a side opening are in a sympathetic nature to the existing frontage of the historic Number 5, with framing used to match its door and window details.

Planting troughs and a wood-framed corrugated roof provide a degree of shelter and balance its industrial edge with an organic softening.
