Architects that build

Artel31’s work in multi-unit residential design is grounded in a deep respect for place and a belief that thoughtful architecture should enhance the lives of those who live there and the character of the communities around them.

We approach each project with a sensitivity to its context, whether that’s a gently rolling greenfield edge, an established urban neighbourhood or a site with heritage value. From the earliest stages, we take time to understand the land, its history and its potential. Careful analysis and quiet observation inform designs that sit comfortably within their surroundings, drawing on local materials, patterns of light and landscape, and the everyday rhythms of life.

landscape and community integration

Across our residential portfolio you will find a consistent emphasis on calm, enduring spaces. Buildings are composed to balance form and function, responding to topography, views and orientation so that homes feel generous, connected and resilient.

Externally, gardens and communal spaces extend living environments into the landscape. We prioritise biodiversity and ecological enhancement, allowing planting to evolve in ways that support wildlife and wellbeing, and integrating sustainable drainage and other natural systems wherever possible.

sustainability as standard work

Our multi-unit residential work is about building more than houses. It’s about creating places that endure, nurture community and respect the land on which they stand. Through careful design and honest craft, we strive to deliver homes that feel both of their time and timeless.

Sustainability runs through both thought and detail. We specify low-impact materials and robust assemblies, and integrate renewable energy, high-efficiency services and adaptable internal layouts that allow for changing needs over time. This is about more than ticking performance boxes; it’s about creating homes that remain comfortable, efficient and relevant for decades.

collaborative design process

Every project is also a collaboration. Engagement with residents, specialists and local authorities helps shape proposals that feel right for people as well as places. We aim for designs that are clear and considered, avoiding the unnecessary in favour of thoughtful proportion, light and space that breathe.
